The industrial action embarked upon by Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, MEHWUN, Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Delsuth chapter over non-payment of Covid-19 inducement allowances among other sundry issues has been suspended.
The decision to suspend the industrial action was reached after a meeting between Delta State Government and the leadership of the Union in Asaba today held at the Health Commissioner’s office.
It was gathered that the meeting which lasted for several hours had in attendance the State commissioner for health, Mr. Ononye, representative of the Accountant-General, representative of Head of Service, Directors in the ministry of health, Representative of Delsuth Management and delegation of the Striking health workers led by the Union Chairman, Comr. James Ufuoma Isiosio met over the demands raised by the Striking health workers.
The Union Chairman, Comr. James Ufuoma Isiosio who briefed newsmen on the outcome of the meeting told correspondents that at the of the meeting, both parties agreed to shift grounds where the strike action was called off to allow Delta State Government perfect their side of the deal.
The Union Chairman, after due consultations directed that the Strike action be suspended.
The Statement reads:
“Having met with the State Council to review the situation after the meeting with the Honourable commissioner For health and the Hospital Management, we have no doubt that better commitment have been extracted with clearer timelines on all the issues raised.”
“Consequent on the above, I hereby direct on behalf of congress, and having consulted the state council that the strike be suspended to allow for expeditious actions on all resolved issues. the strike is hereby suspended with immediate effect.”
The Union thanked members for their total adherence to the Union directives to down tools, however called on them to resume their duty post with effect from tomorrow. He added.
