…traffic defaulters write Police Commissioner over fraud, extortion
In what could be described as masterminded fraudulent act by some staffers of the most scandalized Delta State Agency, Delta State Traffic Management Authority, DESTMA popularly called ‘Okowa Police’ a level four officer of the Agency, Isioma Anyadike was alleged to have defrauded traffic defaulters, Mrs. Gold Emejulu and Mr. Okolo Ikechekwu to the tone of Twenty Thousand Naira with a promise to free the defaulters from the Agency custody, sunreporters authouratively learnt.
According to Mrs. Gold Emejulu who explained that they came from Anambra to Asaba to attend a seminar at Divine Plaza, Summit road, Asaba but was surprised with the ways and manner DESTMA officials treated them to-with extortion, attempt to defraud among other ill treatments meted on them by DESTMA officials.
Mrs. Gold Emejulu also told our correspondent on phone that the embattled staffer of the Agency told her to transfer her some amount into her private where she would issue receipts to them and release them from the Agency custody.
Narrating further, The defaulters stressed that after transferring twenty thousand naira into Isioma Anyadike zenith bank account with account number: 2120159855, she later demanded for another Ten thousand naira but she also begged her to be patient as she had no option.
But on sighting the Director-General of DESTMA, Mr. Samuel Idah, Isioma hurriedly demanded for the defaulter’s account details where she transferred the said money back to her and zoom-off.
DESTMA DG PROMISED SEVERE SANCTIONS
Contacted, the Director-General of the Delta State Traffic Management Agency, Mr. Samuel Azubike Idah who initially argued with our correspondent later confirmed the development, after confirming from the embattled staff, described the act perpetrated by Isioma as fraudulent, vowed to spelt appropriate sanctions for Isioma Anyadike.
“It’s so unfortunate that Isioma Anyadike embarked on this unprofessional virtue, I want to assure you that appropriate sanctions would be meted out on her.’
‘Isioma told me that she wanted to help the defaulter, Mrs. Gold Emejulu as a result of her unable to transfer into the State IGR account but it’s unprofessional for her to embark such.’
Mr. Idah described the act as unprofessional and fraudulent noted that the does not condole any act capable of bringing the name of the Agency to disrepute.
The DESTMA boss promised that Isioma would no longer handle the Agency Point On Sales (POS) machine among other sanctions.
Advising traffic defaulters to report any DESTMA official who demand money from them in form of fines or bribe to the Agency authorities, just as he expressed the Agency readiness to punish any erring staff.
Mrs. Gold Emejulu and Ikechekwu writes petition against Destma
Following the ill treatments meted on them, the dual of Mr. Okolo Ikechekwu and Mrs. Gold Emejulu had petitioned the Police Commissioner of Delta State to investigate the inhuman treatments meted on them by officials of the Delta State Traffic Management Agency.
In a petition written by their lawyer, M.N Ugwuiyi ESq dated 16th September, 2020 appealed to the Police Commissioner to use his good office to save road users from the hands of these Destma officials who are belt on extorting and defrauding road users in the State.
A Human rights activist and Coordinator, Young Nigerian right, Mr. Victor Ojie has call for the arrest and persecution of Isioma Anyadike to serve as deterrent to other officials who still indulge in similar act.
‘This is criminal, How can you direct traffic defaulter to go to a near by POS stand to transfer money into your private account when you are in charge of one of the Agency POS?’
Mr. Ojie alleged that the Agency was manned by fraudsters who extort Nigerians using Delta roads and Gov. Okowa alleged to be comfortable with their operations in the State.
‘The fraudulent acts in Destma has become so alarming and Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa seems not to do anything to save the Agency.’
