It was gathered that the two officers, led by one Sergeant Ikiira Sunday, came from Mopol 29, Awka, Anambra State and were hurriedly fleeing the scene of a breached pipeline, when their vehicle ran over Nwedu

After a successful operation at the pipeline, the officers were accosted by military men at Egbema as well as community youths. They reportedly engaged the soldiers in a gun battle in order to escape.

However, after being overpowered by the military men, they zoomed off in their vehicle, hitting the deceased as they fled.

They were later apprehended and taken into police custody. Petroleum products were seen stored in nylon bags inside their van.
