This may not be the best times for Edo state Gov. Godwin Obaseki, following the resolved of some of his commissioners mainly from Edo north, the stronghold of the APC national Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole to resign from Gov. Godwin Obaseki led State government if the information at our disposal is anything to by.
Dependable sources who craved for anonymity has told our correspondent Sunday night that no fewer than five commissioners, Special Advisers among other appointees has concluded plans to execute the directives of their leader and benefactor, Adams Oshiomhole.
It was gathered that following the information of the appointees imminent resignation, Gov. Obaseki summoned all his commissioners to a meeting in his Benin residence which last for about one hour, forty five minutes.
In said meeting, the governor warned the commissioners of the grave consequences that would follow if any of them decides to resign.
Our correspondent gathered that five influential commissioners had concluded plans to resign from the administration of Gov. Obaseki due to internal squabbles between the governor and Adams Oshiomhole, just as the commissioners vowed to sink with Oshiomhole.
“The planned resignation may not be unconnected with the power-play by some “cabal” in the Obaseki-led government who have reportedly shut out every other person in the scheme of things.
A government source who craved for anonymity said, “It’s true the governor met with his commissioners on Sunday. After the meeting, some of the commissioners who had initially concluded plans to resign their respective positions had to soft-pedal for fear of arrests, threat of other grave consequences that may follow their resignation and play along with the governor pending when the political atmosphere is clear for them to do so. But some of the commissioners vowed never to make U-turn on leaving no matter what happens at the end.
It would be recalled that Gov. Obaseki’s chief of staff, Francis Taiwo Akerele resigned his appointment on Saturday morning on personal ground and in less than less than 48 hours after Mr. Akelere resigned,
operatives of Department of State State Services (SSS) and men of the Nigeria Police reportedly invaded his residence in Benin City on Sunday night.
The Security operatives were said to have arrested Mr. Akerele’s Personal Assistant, Jaspa Olowojoba, whom they reportedly used to search Akerele’s house located at Ugbor Road in Benin City.
As at the time of this report, Mr. Francis Taiwo Akelere, the embattled former Chief of Staff was said to have gone into hiding to avoid arrest, sources close to him confirmed to our correspondent that he was advised to go underground to avoid being used as a scape goat by Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
Unconfirmed sources told our correspondent that Akelere had made frantic calls to Adams Oshiomhole of the development before he was taken away from his house to unknown destination by his supporters who besieged his residence.
