Crisis brewing in Ethiope West LGA as legislative arm suspends six Councilors



Crisis seems to be looming in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State,  following the suspension of six Councilors over alleged gross misconduct and an attempt by the executive arm of the Local government to use them to silent the House by way to enthroned some of the Councilors into principal offices.


According to dependable sources within the Council who told our correspondent that trouble seems to have started in the House when there was a misunderstanding  between the Council Chairman and the House, a development majority of the House members were not happy with,  which according to a ranking member of the House, Aghogho Meretin moved a motion against the Council boss.

Our source hinted further that the House following that motion moved by Hon. Meretin, Majority leader of the House  wrote letter to banks where the Council operate account not to allow the Council Chairman or his agents withdraw fund from the Council coffers.

Worried by the development and following wide consultation,  the Chairman on Monday 1st July, 2019 presented budget to the House to enable him spend the Council funds.

A top Honourable member of the House also told our correspondent that the plan of the House was to suspend the Council Chairman for running the Council without budget, but stated that the suspended Councilors were seen as the agents of the executive arm of the Local government in the House, a development that is against the House rule.

Stressing futher that at an emergency plenary session held today, Tuesday July 9th, 2019,  the House led by its leader and fourteen other Councilors  suspended six Councilors as seen as working favour of the Council Chairman to impeach the House majority leader, Aghogho Meretin.

Those suspended according to the suspension letter signed and copy made available to our correspondent include; Ben Idje, Blessing  Akamugbe, Smith Nikoro, Umujane Solomon,  Valentina Awhurhi and lemme Jaja.

Contacted one of the suspended Councilors told our correspondent that the House have no right to suspend them, Stressing that the leader of the House and other Principal Officers of the House are on vendetta mission.
