Righting rots in Delsuth: management mute as 500KVA generating plant disappeared

Despite Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa effort to revive the mouribund Delta University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, board members, management of the institution has suddenly turned deaf and dumb as 500KVA disappeared from the hospital, just as a top management staff (name withheld) has been fingered as being behind the alleged illegal sales of the hospital plant.

The institution would take miracle to survive following alleged plans by the top management  staff to fustrate the governor's plan for the hospital, for giving the present board led by Chris Oghenechovwen extension to remain in the hospital.

Dependable sources from the State owned Teaching Hospital informed our correspondent that the institution said the top management stafff has alleged to have secretely sold one of the institution 500KVA generating plant (Blue color) who according to the source has minor fault but rather than taking it for repair, he secretly sold it, while some management staff alleged the money went into private pockets.

Sources within the account department told our correspondent that the proceeds of the Generating plant was never remitted to the institution coffers.

Another top staff of the institution who confided on our correspondent noted that government has not paid for the plant allegedly sold averred that Delta State government under the administration of Gov. Uduaghan bought the plant from one Clems Omoshola some time in 2014.

Sources within the hospital also told our correspondent that he has vowed to sell more properties in the institution, especially now that the main clinical building would be completely renovated.

Perfecting his plans, the top management staff has alleged to have contacted buyers ahead of the renovation of the main clinical building of the hospital, which was recently awarded by Delta State to the tune of N940 Million naira to a Chinese company.

According to a top staff of the hospital told observed that the hospital has two blue generating plant, wondered how the top management staff could sell government property with due process.

Contacted on phone, the Board Chairman of the hospital, Dr. Chris Oghenechovwen denied being part of the illegal sales of the institution Generating plant, promised to investigate the alleged sales of the plant.

Effort to obtain comments from the institution Chief Medical Director, Onome Ogueh was unsuccessful as he neither pick calls nor replied Short Message Service, SMS sent to his known Airtel line. Insider source explained that the CMD was not comfortable to field questions from our correspondent.

The institution staff noted that the Blue Generating plant in question was not publicly auditioned, wondered how the top management staff would sell the plant at that huge amount without the notice of both Board members and some management of the institution.

Reacting to the development, a Warri based human right activist, Bar. Oghenekaro Alexander described the act as criminal, while calling on the institution management, board and Delta State to immediately probe the whereabout of the said Blue generating plant.
