Senate adjourns plenary for elections

The Senate has adjourned plenary for four weeks.The adjournment is to allow members of the upper chamber to participate in the forthcoming general elections. Some are seeking reelection or contesting for other offices while others are actively participating in the campaigns for presidential candidates of their choice.
They are billed to resume on the 19th of February, 2019.
The Presidency and National Assembly polls is to take place on the 16th of February this year.
After concluding the items listed on the order paper for the day, the Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe) moved for the adjournment of plenary.
Approving his motion, the Presiding officer, Senator Ike Ekweremadu announced: “Dear distinguished colleagues, in view of the fact that it is after 2.00pm, we cannot proceed any further so we have to adjourn accordingly. The Senate hereby adjourns to Tuesday, the 19th day of February, 2019 at 10.00am prompt.”
