The People's Democratic Party in Delta State has flagged off its 2019 election campaigns at Oghara in Ethiope East LGA of the state, with the Party's flag handed over to Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for his reelection as Governor of the Delta State.

Okowa while responding to the massive show of love on him by his party men and women, reeled out the achievements of his administration within the period under review.

He said there were challenges initially, but with trust in God and prudence management of State resources, those had been surmounted.

He promised to embark on the Warri drainage construction soonest, hinting that N3 billion had already been earmarked in the budget to commence the project.

The peace loving Governor solicited the coperation, peace and prayer of all to enable him succeed the more. He encouraged Deltans not to show concern to what the opposition is doing and work towards the continued peaceful coexistence in the state.

He disparaged the opposition for threatening to scatter votes in Delta, stating that election to become Governor is not by mouth.

He confirmed the remobilization of contractor for the Trans-Warri/Ode Itsekiri Road project which was initially stiffened by fund. 

He declared that those contesting against PDP would be crushed, positing that PDP would win the 25 LGAs of the State landslide; while also reemphasizing that it takes experience and solid political culture to be elected as Governor.

In his speech, the former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori who mounted the podium at 1:30pm, afffirmed unequivocally that Okowa has done well within the confines of governance and deserves a second term.

"When i was away and you launched your campaign, you launched it in Oghara. Again, you have come to launch it in Oghara. It means that you know the history.

As the head of the PDP family, i declare that you have the capacity to continue to lead the State. You deserve a second term. You will lead the battle and i know you will lead us successfully.

As the Odidigboigbo of politics, i have handed over the mantle to you, go on and lead us. Now permit me to address my people in Urhobo", he said and quickly code switched to Urhobo dialect.

The Delta political Emperor, stressed that he knows that the peace of the state is paramount and that is why he would never go against a working political formula that has arranged the governorship rotation turn by turn.

He further affirmed that Okowa has done well in governance in all ramifications, praying that as a Godly man who always puts God first, God will not disappoint him. " Go on and lead us, you have all of our support", Ibori concluded with an Igbo gospel song.

The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Barr. Kingsley Burutu Otuaro equally hailed Deltans for their sincere support to Okowa led government, affirming that the duo are ready to do it again.

The Director General of the campaign council, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon in his address of welcome, acknowledged the presence of God in the campaign take off.

The PDP chairman, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso said he had come to preach the gospel of what the PDP stands for and will do, without being deterred to wriggle the country out of the mess APC had put it in.

He encouraged all to preach the same gospel based on evidential results of the achievements of Governor Okowa led Administration.

He said PDP is ever ready to change the change, adding that Atiku by the grace of God is the next President of Nigeria and Okowo continuing as the governor of Delta State.

The campaign council chairman, Prof. Sam Oyovwaire appreciated all the party faithful, members, including support groups and non indigene communities for their show of appreciation for what God has used Okowa to do in Delta.

He thanked God for giving him a second opportunity to chair the campaign council to deliver Senator Okowa as the State Governor again.

The former Minister of Information commended party leaders and members for showing solidarity to the Okowa's course in large number, which he said was evidence of the performance of Governor Okowa.

Speaking also was a party leader, Dr. Steve Oruh, who welcomed all and sundry for gathering to show the strength of PDP in Delta.

In his goodwill, the former Senator who represented Delta North in the Senate, Senator Patrick Osakwe thumbed up for Okowa for such a mass movement as seen in the crowd, adding that Delta State is ready to change the change.

He posited that PDP is a change changer, maintaining that the state is now ever than before ready to enthrone a progressive government at all levels.

Furthermore, another party stalwart, Dr. Oritsejafor recalled the Germaine promises made by Okowa when taking over the mantle of leadership in 2015, testifying that those promises were not only kept but adequately fulfilled.

He described Okowa as a prudent manager of resources, stressing that equity and performance are behind him.

However, Stella Omu speaking on behalf of women, acknowledged that APC allegedly brought backwardness to the country, which she confidently posited Atiku Abubakar had emerged to change.

She gave it to Okowa for showing good governance and proving his leadership worth. She confirmed the resolve of women to going all out for Atiku and Okowa, including other candidates.

Prof. Amos Utuama, former Deputy Governor of the State, categorically affirm his support for Governor Okowa as well as the Presidential candidate of the Party, Atiku Abubakar and other candidates.

He said Okowa has made his mark in leadership and deserves a second term.

Chief BSC Elue, a former Deputy to Governor Ibori, appreciated all Deltans for affirming the equity arrangement in the governorship rotation.

He noted that PDP is synonymous with peace and unity, urging all party men and women to go back to their respective constituencies to deliver all PDP candidates.

In an interview, Chief Henry Ogheneochuko Ofa, Member of the Delta State Post Primary Education Board, said the Urhobos are pleased to support Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, maintaining that their commitment to the Okowa project was not negotiable.

The Oghara born grassroots politician however, advised those Urhobo politicians who are still playing opposition politics to desist from it now, because after Okowa in 2023 it would be the turn of Urhobo again.

Also interviewed was the Deputy Publicity Director, Prince Obaro Unuafe, who said that Delta is on cause to deliver Senator Okowa for a second term.

The highpoint of the campaign was the presentation of flags to candidates for Governorship, Senate, House of Reps and House of Assembly.
