The men armed with special guns called Tavor numbering 10, took strategic positions around the building that houses the two chambers of the National Assembly, where the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idrius was expected to honour the senate invitation to explain the rationale behind the security unrest in the Country.
But in what was termed as executive backing, the IGP dares the senate to do their worst as he turned down the senate invitation.
According to top official close to Presidency, The Inspector General of Police stormed the Presidential Villa on Monday night at about 10pm where he had a closed doors meeting with the President that lasted for about an hour, ought the details of the meeting were not made known but Presidency source privy to the meeting told our correspondent that the Police came to the Villa to briefed the Presidency about the senate invitation, but President Buhari told the IGP not to panic over the invitation, stressing that there plans on ground to cut the National Assembly to size. The Presidency source added.
When confronted for an explanation on what must have informed the sudden change in security strategy, a top security officer in the National Assembly who prefer not to be identified, stated that there were some security developments that dictated the new trend, but unconfirmed reports revealed that the security men were drafted to the National Assembly to forestall any attempt by the senate to do anything stupid over an alleged impeachment process on President Buhari over the  $496m for purchase of Tucano Aircraft. .
According to him, “There are issues within security circles which you cannot understand. And because of the sensitivity of such issues, they cannot be divulged to the general public for now.”
Some of the masked men were seen in front of the entrance to the Senate chamber, others at the route leading to the office of the Senate President while more were at the entrance to the white house.
